The Principal's Office

The door to the principal’s office is open at all hours, although you will only find Hester at the receptionist’s desk from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This is primarily where you can have private conversations with her. Though there’s an actual office in the back, it is always closed and locked.

[Look, she suspected as much but also...

She closes the door behind her and just sort of... hobbles over to Hester's chair. It sort of has her aura, right? Maybe the space smells like her, even.]

Please be safe. Please.

[Maya might sit there, laid against the desk in a heap for some time. Eventually, though, she'll go to the locked door. She knocks there a few times. And then a few times more. And then she's slamming her fist because it's cathartic.]

Hester!

[The space has the faint smell of gardenia and amaryllis- so yes, it does smell like her a little still.

This feels familiar, doesn't it, Maya? Just like that night after the first trial with Hester weeping on the otherside of that door and you trying to console her despite your own pain. The start of a beautiful and at times complicated...friendship.

Unfortunately no one answers this time.]

[She'll linger there for some time, at least. Curled up by the door, face pressed to the surface. She pushes her fingers as hard as she can against it, as if she might be able to reach out and touch her one last time.]
