The Principal's Office

The door to the principal’s office is open at all hours, although you will only find Hester at the receptionist’s desk from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This is primarily where you can have private conversations with her. Though there’s an actual office in the back, it is always closed and locked.

[Hester is a little preoccupied behind her desk when Eurydice comes in, busy patting a powdery foundation across her nose and cheeks, but she looks at her with a bright smile nonetheless.]

Eurydice! Good morning, I was wondering if you'd come to see me. Come in, come in- would you like some tea? I have some extra.

[ Why would someone spend their time applying makeup when they have a school to run, honestly --

No. Miss Hester is in charge, and it's not going to do Eurydice any good to criticize the people in charge. She's here for information, and information only. ]

Sure. Thank you.

[ When Hester offers the tea, Eurydice will not drink it, but she will smell it discreetly. ]

Nice, uh, makeup.

[ There! Manners! ]

[It smells, well, like tea! Definitely herbal.]

Thank you! I just don't really feel like myself in the mornings until I have my face on, you know? [She sets down her compact and turns to fully look at Eurydice.] But! What can I do got you today?

I found a camera the other day, and I was wondering what it's for.

[ If the Wizard can warn them with an earthquake, surely he'd be able to watch them without using cameras? ]

They're mostly for my use. [She shrugs a bit.] I have to be able to keep tabs on all of you, we can't all be omniscient. Only in the public spaces though! We're not shoving cameras into the showers or anything. [That's just creepy.]

[ Makes sense. Eurydice takes the tiniest sip of tea. ]

What’s it like? Being safe up here, and watching us?

[ It seems awfully comfortable. ]

It's... [Hester hums a little, leaning her cheek onto her hand while she ponders an answer.] I can't exactly call it "nice", all things considered, but it's comfortable in a weird way. Knowing someone I trust is looking after me.

I haven't really had that before now.

[ Oh no that was much too relatable!! Eurydice finally drops her gaze. Score one for Hester. ]

Yeah. I get that. [ a beat. ] You trust the Wizard, then?

[ Eurydice raises one eyebrow and nods, ever so slightly. For a brief moment, her expression softens, no longer quite so demanding.

The moment is gone as quickly as it came. ]
