The Principal's Office

The door to the principal’s office is open at all hours, although you will only find Hester at the receptionist’s desk from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This is primarily where you can have private conversations with her. Though there’s an actual office in the back, it is always closed and locked.

[Oh joy. When he opens the door Hester is seated behind the receptionst's desk, typing away at her little pink laptop without looking away from the screen.]

Hello, Balladeer. Did you want something?

[Is this normal? It sure feels kinda chilly. The Balladeer sits anyway.]

I feel like we got off on the wrong foot back there. I...don't know what happened, but I'm sure I didn't mean to come into any shows uninvited.

[Technically, he'd meant to stop the show before it could begin, so this is true!]

Mmhm. [She keeps typing, only barely glancing over at him in the chair.] Except you're here and it's a problem for all of us. The Wizard's already warned me plenty about you.

I don't really see how that's my fault.

You might not know him but he's well aware of you and the Leading Player. [She snaps out her name like a curse.]

[Well, that makes a little more sense. Though, what problem could anybody have with her? He supposes she's a bit of a strong personality, but she's never been anything but nice to him!]

What, are they competing over this show concept? That seems really petty.

It's not petty to us. Our show has meaning to it, we have actual goals we want to achieve.

Every show has goals. You don't go to all that effort for no reason. She's trying to make a new piece of art, for people to have fun!

People having fun at the expense of-! [She straightens her posture, her scowl deepening.] At the expense of a whole lot of other things that she clearly doesn't care about.

...if you mean my show, I don't think they really wanted me there anyway.

[Although he does feel faintly guilty about abandoning it sometimes. But...well, it is what it is.]

What she did to your show is the least of our worries ironically. At least the Assassins are contained.
