The Principal's Office

The door to the principal’s office is open at all hours, although you will only find Hester at the receptionist’s desk from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This is primarily where you can have private conversations with her. Though there’s an actual office in the back, it is always closed and locked.

[The memories have gotten way too concerning. Claudine, the alien, Riley, now Jeremy? Angus recalls the Wizard's comments to the SQUIP during the trial, and the questions are too great to ignore.

He barges into the office.]

Why did the Wizard bring me back?

[Hester, for once, doesn't startle when someone busts into her office unannounced. Instead she looks up at him slowly, her shoulders slumped forward. When she speaks it's slowly, like just talking is a huge effort.]

You have to be more specific, Angus.

[mcfife]

Why me? Why not Riley, or Claudine, or Nana, or Jeremy, or Christine? I was in one of these prisons before, Hester. You have to know something about it. You know what's in the yearbook!

[He prays that she isn't entirely in the dark. He prays that he can finally get answers.]

[Hester takes in a breath and lets it out slowly. She doesn't seem annoyed at his questions or angry at him for barging in. She just looks like she hasn't slept or brushed her hair in maybe two days].

Chance? Bad luck? You wandered into an alley while visiting Manhattan and fell through a manhole and wound up here? I don't know why they picked you specifically. I just know you're here.

[mcfife]

But you work for the Wizard. You have to know something--

[He has just woken up and had barely time to process his new memory, but now he notices what Hester looks like. Could it be? Is she willing to help them instead of the Wizard?

If she is...he might actually be hopeful about this week.]

What do you mean by "they"?

...And where is Manhattan?

[tailor_made]

I know what I know and that's all that I know. [She heaves another exhausted sigh and lifts a hand to rub one of her temples.] You found out last time who "they" were. Maybe you'll remember soon. [But when he mentions Manhattan the corner of her mouth twitches with an attempt at a smile.]

In the greatest city in the wo-o-orld

[She's...trying to give that the enthusiasm it needs but with how she's feeling it doesn't really have the desired effect.]

[mcfife]

[She's not even privy to the Wizard's secrets, yet she works for him. It's concerning...but he's hopeful. She has to be able to do something.]

Why, then, are our memories gone? Or does The Wizard share nothing with you?

Not just mine, but everyone else. Surely they don't know who is behind this as well.

[tailor_made]

He shares things with me. [She bristles then grimaces, the ache in her head getting abruptly sharper.]

Your memories are gone because that's part of the process. It's a reward, like with the new areas of the school- you solve a case, you get something in return.

[mcfife]

[Angus wants to believe her...but it's difficult when everything is a mystery. A sick reward for killing each other, and an excuse for Angus to be of no help.

He sighs loudly.] Go rest. I must figure out what this all means on my own. And ask the wizard for a break, you're out here all day.
